Henry enlisted with the Royal West Kent Regt on 3rd September 1914 and served with the 6th Bn. He was attached to the 37th Light Trench Mortar Battery that would have used Stokes mortars. He was wounded (gassed) on the 9th April 1918. Wounded again on the 24th September 1918.
He was Mentioned in Dispatches (MID) to Sir D Haig on 8th November 1918, appearing in London Gazette Supp. Issue 31085 page 15156 on the 27th December 1918.
The was 'demobbed' on the 12th March 1919 as a result of his injuries.
